Group Assignment
This is the process of creating our newspaper
First Part: Creating logo and templete
We did research through online to get some ideas for our logo
and theme.We refer to Malaysia’s newspaper, as well as newspaper printed by
others country, such as Italy, US, and UK. We found that, those publishers
normally use the basic font for their logo. This might due to it is easier to
read on it. Moreover, the color that used are not colorful, yet keep it clear
and clean. After that we discuss on it and came out some ideas (as printscreened
above). Piky is assigned to design on it.
Brieftly
explaination for out logo and theme:
Theme: Vintage, as is
evening newspaper.
Color: Vintage color
(deep brown to light brown)
Font: Avatar Bold
Size: 170pt
Group assignment given for MCH307 Publication Design is to design a newspaper template.
Second part: Content development
Part
A: Cover page & local news
Add and arrange for the master headline and
images.
Add on advertisement as well. (Upper right)
This
page is the continued news from the cover page. For the content, we make it in
six columns. It divided to 3 parts on the page:
Up: Image for the news.
Middle:
Sub headline and content for the page. Add one more image for the news.
Bottom: Advertisement. 
Following page is the full page of advertisement.
Advertisement was added and dragged it to fix the full column size.
Texts were added into the section prepared for the news on right column.
A horizontal and
vertical line was added in to give clear and clean view between two pieces of news.
An advertisement was adjusted to fit into the
page on right.
Part
B: World News
Start with 1st
page : Add image and adding words (Lorem Ipsum).
Then, use of TEXT
WRAP on the image. 
A
fter that,
continue with the second and third news.
Add in the
headline first.
Use
of text wrap on the following image as well.
Add in advertisement on the right and bottom, then
done on the first page.
Basically, this page is more on Asia News (Tsunami,
Nuclear Threats)
Add on the the
yellow column on the right hand side as well.
Continue with the second news for this page.
Add in all the contents and continue with the news
on the bottom.
Basically, this page is more on US News. (Obama,
Argentina)
Then, began on the third page with an image of the
Syrian kid.

in more images and contents
Add in images
and contents.
Basically the 3rd
page is the news regarding Syria wars.
The
World news includes of 3 pages which covers Asia, US and Syria News.
Part C: Features (Lomography)
Step
1: Background
Step
2: Adjust the background color
The background looks dark and dirty, therefore we decided to
crop the dark part of the background and adjust the tone to be more brightness
in Adobe Photoshop.
Step
3: Cover Logo
Step
4: Link pages
After done the editing part from Adobe Photoshop,
link the page to Adobe Indesign.
Step 5: Add in
background
Find the Valentine or something related to love
background and then adjust the opacity to 20%.
Step 6: Add in
Typography
Apply “All Ages” Type Font to Special Edition.
Apply “Admiration Pains” Type Font to Love.
Step 7: Content Page
Use back the front page background (Visualogist,
2009) and then enlarge the background to fit in the two pages.
Step 8: Effect for
Background
Apply some love background in order to relate it to
Valentine. Adjust the opacity of the background to 20%.
Step 9: Insert the Lomo
camera
Obtain the lomo camera from one of the online
magazine. Cut the photo and combine them together from Adobe Photoshop. Insert
the combination of various lomo camera and placed in Adobe Indesign.
Step 10: Create Box
Create various boxes for writing the content.
Step 11: Edit the Photo
Place the photo over the white layer, adjust the
color tone of the photo, insert the lomo camera and then create a headline in
Adobe Photoshop.
Step 12: Insert the
lomo camera and picture
Insert the picture and adjust the placement and
layout.
Step 13: Putting the
Words
Put the content at the box space and adjust the
placement.
Step 14: Final Step
Add in the box on top of the right side and then add
in the content.
Part D: Entertainment
This page is all about the entertainment and leisure
page where readers can enjoy playing simple games and read comic after work.
First to catch an eye of the reader, I decided to
put comic strip at the left top corner and “horoscope of the day” on the right
top corner. Images are resized to fit into the columns.
Next I fit in Sudoku and “Spot the differences” at
the bottom of the page. Images were resized to fit the page.
The last part is to insert the “Lego” advertisement
at the bottom of the page. The advertisement was cropped to fit the space as
the original advertisement is too large and in odd shape.
Part E: Sports News
Upon agreement, the font and the structure of the newspaper was agreed by all the team members. As for the sports section, the p consist of both images and words where the balance is given importance there.
This
was the last page at the back where the where six column as one large image on
the top and an advertisement in the below to make it consistent and balance.
The text placed in each columns according to flow based on the news. The font
varies depending on subhead and the masthead.
