1. Emphasis
(source: http://issuu.com/rylandpetersandsmall/docs/chococo_chocolate_cookbook/1)
The image shows Chococo Chocolate, a cookbook by Claire Burnet. The emphasiss of the cook book cover was a photography of a close up of a cut chocolate brownie with strawberries filling.
2. Contrast
(source: http://issuu.com/spafax/docs/fairmont_international_fall_20122/1)
The cover for Fairmont Magazine for fall 2012 issue uses the contrast of a lady wearing in bright red against the monochrome colour in the background. The elements in the background which is formed by one hue share the shades of grey and created harmony. However, the red colour contradicts the background.
The contrast created adds interest to the cover and make it stand out from the competitors when consumers are selecting magazine.
3. Balance

4. Alignment
5. Repetition
6. Flow
(source: http://issuu.com/hotmedia/docs/kwt_feb_13/1)
Kanoo World Traveller Feb'13 page 15 and 16 shows a distinct element of flow in design principles.
The alignment and repetition creates the flow. The flow of the image on left leads to the copy and then to image and text on right.
